Some of you may have already seen Atul Gawande deliver a Ted Talk titled “Want to get great at something? Get a coach”, but I thought I would share it in case you have not. Atul details how he is interested in “how he gets better at what he does.” He approaches coaching in the same way I did during my career and how I approach it today as a professional coach. He states how “it’s not how good you are now, it’s how good you are gonna be.” Atul covers well the reasons why one is never finished improving and how we can overcome the plateau that we all face in our career by receiving feedback and critiques from a coach. Getting feedback and critique is hard to take, but it is essential to our professional and personal growth.
